TOMS RIVER, NJ – Mayor Steve Lonegan today declared his candidacy for Congress in New Jersey’s Third District promising to build on his victory over Cory Booker in the 2013 Special Senate race.

“Republicans in New Jersey need a strong and consistent voice in Congress and the Third District deserves a candidate who is prepared to win,” Lonegan said.  ”I won the Third by 8 points in October and I’ll win by even more in 2014.”

Lonegan spoke to a crowded hotel ballroom of over 150 enthusiastic supporters.  He was introduced by Medford Councilman Randy Pace and supported by Lavallette Mayor Walter LaCicero, Ocean Gate Mayor Paul Kennedy, Ocean Gate Republican Club President Riley Applegate, Ocean Gate Councilman Brian DiStefano, and Ocean Gate Councilman John Serpica.

“Steve Lonegan represents our best chance to hold on to the Third District and carry the down-ballot races in 2014,” Mayor LaCicero said. “I’m proud to stand with my friend, Lavallette resident, and our next Congressman, Steve Lonegan.”

Lonegan’s overwhelming strengths were on display at the Campaign Kick-Off where speakers highlighted his deep fundraising abilities and broad base of organizational support.

“Steve Lonegan cultivated over 25,000 donors in just 5 months in his recent Senate campaign and built a statewide network of volunteers that went door-to-door in every County across NJ,” LaCicero said. “Steve is well positioned to win the Third a District and that victory begins today with the support of those in this room.”
