LAVALLETTE, NJ -This afternoon former mayor and conservative candidate for Congress, Steve Lonegan, called on Governor Christie to act swiftly and veto harmful gun legislation passed this week in the New Jersey Senate.
Senate Bill 993 further restricts high capacity magazines in guns from 10-15 rounds. The bill does nothing to prevent crime and will ultimately ban numerous popular gun models which are designed with fixed magazines that hold more than 15 rounds. For example, the bill would make illegal a rifle used by the U.S. cavalry during the Civil War.
Also yesterday the New Jersey Senate passed Assembly Bill 2777 which clarifies circumstances under which New Jersey gun owners may transport their firearms.
“Both of these laws do far more harm than good,” said Lonegan. “I call on Governor Christie to act swiftly to veto this legislation should the amended bills make it out of Assembly and land on his desk.”
