LAVALLETTE, NJ – Today, former mayor and conservative candidate for Congress, Steve Lonegan, announces the endorsement of the Tea Party Express.

The organization “committed to identifying and supporting conservative candidates” threw its support behind Curt Clawson in Florida’s 19th congressional district earlier this year and helped deliver a decisive victory for Clawson Tuesday evening.

Tea Party Express Executive Director Taylor Budowich said, “Steve Lonegan is exactly the kind of Constitutional conservative that will go to Washington D.C. and fight for what’s right. He is a proven conservative champion who will not back down in the face of President Obama’s liberal agenda.

“Throughout his career, Lonegan has proven his willingness to stand up to the establishment of both parties, and we are confident that he will do the same as a member of Congress. Above all else, Steve Lonegan is a fighter who will do everything he can to put an end to the Obama-Pelosi big government agenda of tax increases, crippling regulations and reckless spending.

“He has already demonstrated his strong appeal to voters in the 3rd Congressional District, which he carried in the recent Special U.S. Senate election, where the Tea Party Express was proud to endorse Lonegan.  We were victorious yesterday in the Special Congressional Election with outsider, Curt Clawson, and Lonegan will bring the same kind of energy and fresh approach that is needed in Washington,” Budowich concluded.

“I am proud and I am honored to receive the vote of confidence from this outstanding organization,” said Lonegan. “If the message delivered last Tuesday evening in Florida’s 19th district tells us anything at all, it’s that the Tea Party Express supports bold, winning Republican candidates. I am glad to have their support and I look forward to joining Clawson next year in Washington.”

“It’s not difficult to see why the Tea Party Express chose to support lifelong conservative, Steve Lonegan, today,” said Lonegan spokesman, Tim Kelly. “After all, none of us can quite figure out what a liberal like Tom MacArthur – who supports nationalized health care, more taxpayer-funded low income housing, and who raised property taxes each year in office – is doing in a Republican primary anyway.”
